Just starting to do a bit of training with Pippa, after being told i started too soon with Lizzie and there was no rush ? Pippa is 10months old and is now {last week} used to the gun, good start. Hard work starts now this summer, Question do i take her on the lead at the start of the season to watch mum and get used to the fun and excitement of the days shoot ? Hows Jack doing ?

Hi John, great thanks! Congratulations! I hope all continues to go well. Jacks adventures are still being posted on the 'gun-dog lives under the table', thread and we already have a few days shooting lined up as well as all the beating. It would be great to see you in the autumn back up in the Dales, if your friends will have us! All the best, to you and yours.

Lizzie our Sprocker has today been confirmed "in pup" She is 3 years old and we have used a Cocker as the stud dog. Some on the shoot we work on say not to bother breeding with a cross and others say they make great pets and work well too , who do you believe ? As Lizzie is such a good dog if her pups are half as good as her they will be fine. Has anyone else heard of such crosses and how they turned out ?

Hi John, Yes we have been out just once. On my thread 'the urban gun-dog..' I've written about it, if you are interested. That was Jack's first ever day. I'd love to come up. Timing will be critical, as I've promised to work the season for 'our' shoot now. It's alternate weeks. We're on next week, maybe the week after? (1st week nov 3rd?). I could bring my friend. His dog is less forward but he is keen to see what goes on.... What's the postcode for SAT NAV puroses (again...) atb

busy times then ! i have taken Lizzie "Duckin" two or three times since the start of the month, a strange experience for her & me. When out walking through parks and along river banks she longs to get at the wildfowl only to be told NO! Now time to work, she finds the birds but wont pick up, looking up at me as if to say make your mind up ! so have kept a couple of pairs of wings to wrap around her dummy, time will tell ? Springer and a Cocker, you like a challange ! You can let me no any time you wish to let Jack and yourself {and your friend+dog if you wish} fancy a good Saturday morning blowout !! we meet @9am prompt.

Hi John, Sadly no. I've got a lot on my plate dog-wise. I'm still trying to get as much polish into Jack before he makes his debut in the field in about a month (or less) and of course, we want to come up and 'work' alongside you. Saturday is my main day. Also my daughter has a brand new Springer pup arriving this w/e. I've said I'll train it with (for?) her....... as she lives only a couple of streets away. Maybe next time?

Retrieved her first brace today. three days after her first birthday. Do any other owners work / train their dogs at a young age ?Lizzie has been to a few shoots this season along side some cracking working Cockers & Springers {and the ODD Terrier} and learnt loads, come on leaps n bounds. Who's advice is right ? people tell you this and that but at the end of the day its down to you and your dog ! or am I just lucky ?
