About Me

I have a black WC called Bertie. He is a little monster but I love him to bits. :D

Since getting Bertie I have submersed myself in the world of working cockers in a big way! Through this site, many books and talking to fellow wcs owners I have learnt a lot but I am still learning.

I take Bertie to gundog training which he loves and we go running together and walk A LOT! I am very lucky as I am with Bertie pretty much all day everyday.

I am not a shooter but I would like to take Bertie beating next season as I know he would just love it!

I have seen a few people talk about 'the bug'.  Well I definitely have the bug! As soon as we get a bigger property with more land I will be adding to my family with as many merry little cockers as my OH will allow!!

I would also like to rescue a wcs, I think too many of these incredible dogs are misunderstood and go to the wrong home where the owner has not researched the breed and often doesn't exercise/train them enough.

Thanks very much Jemma, pleased you like the pictures of my dogs. I do like my black cockers, as you've guessed!!!

Have fun playing around with your new camera. You are right about photographing black dogs, it can be tricky, I'd recommend you have a look at the exposure compensation settings on your Nikon, it's a big help in poor light conditions.

Also have a look at the PhotoRadar website, there are some useful articles on there.

Look forward to seeing your pictures

Sorry I haven't replied sooner but I've been away for a few days.
Yes I have to agree Murphy and Bertie look very alike. Reading your profile it seems that they share very similar traits, being little lovable monsters. I am thinking seriously about gundog training, as I think he would really benefit from it.

Hi Jem,

Thanks for the fiends invite! I wish I had discovered this site months ago - it's really useful and very friendly. I'm just trying to work out how to get Ellies pedigree up on the site, I'll have to put some effort in!

Hi Jem and Bertie
Some WC's dont loose the puppy fluff on their legs until they are 2 yrs old, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Hi everyone
I am new to this group and I'm pretty excited about finding a website full of other working cocker spaniel fans!

My cocker Bertie is now 9 months old. He still has a lot of his puppy fur on his legs and sides and it's very fluffy! I have been patient and thought it would grow out but I am now wondering if I should be doing something about it! I groom him regularly but does anyone have the same late developing adult coat or can anyone recommend a hair removal brush or technique?
