Has anyone encountered the fact that if you have a test done by Labokiln for PRA for example, you cannot have it added to your dogs KC records? Apparently Optigen have put a patent on the PRA test and will not allow the KC to put results from other companies on registration certificates. So you have a litter of puppies where one parents' PRA test was carried out by Labokiln, those resultant puppies cannot be registered PRA hereditarily clear on their KC registration certificate!!!! Slightly annoyed

Yes I read someone elses posts on another forum about it, just an idea but have you personally spoken to the relevent person at the Kennel Club to ask why?

Yes and no. I have a friend who works for KC, she gave me the contact details of the lady to speak to. She said (via email) that the company Optigen have patented their PRA test with the KC certification and registration service meaning that should a company other than themselves carry out the said test then those results will not be able to be recorded against the dogs KC records. The record still stands as proof of your dogs PRA status and resulting offspring will still be hereditarily clear (if applicable). I am going to be putting both parents health certificates in the puppy packs for the new owners to see.

Unless your friend is envolved in the particular department at the KC, I am going to suggest is that you double check with the relevent person at the KC, sometimes the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.

Hi Sharabear, I have just got off the phone with the Health Dept at the KC. They said: The puppies results will be recorded on Mate Select and on their Reg papers as Hereditary Clear. The KC cannot publish actual test results for PRA if it is a Laboklin test but the result is still recorded, therefore if these dogs are bred to other Clear Tested dogs (Optigen or Laboklin) it can publish the litter as "Hereditary Clear" as this is not a test result from Laboklin. That should make you happier!
