Hi all

My two enjoyed a game of tag in the fields with a Gordon Setter but when it got close I soon noticed very `snotty' eyes, so I got them away quickly but within days my cocker was showing one red eye, this followed a visit to the vets and my other dog got it as well a day later.  Some £56 later I am extremely annoyed that this dog was allowed off the lead to infect other dogs and cost me money at the end of the day when the eye problem was extremely obvious.  Anyway .......

A visit to the vets was followed with antibiotic eye ointment/drops but we were just off on holiday which included beach walks and stuff and the seven day treatment hasn't done it - it seems to be coming back so I'm back to the vets but any other tips in addition to the vets treatment of more eye ointment/drops?  I have never had this problem with my dogs before and I was careful to do get the ointment in lower eye lid correctly twice a day at the same time each day

Any input appreciated.

I'd get the vet to take a very careful look just to check there is no damage to the eye, conjunctiva and lids.  It may be an infection, but could also be inflammation due to damage.

I use antibacterial Optrex whenever any of the dogs eyes look like they may flare up into something more substantial infection wise.  So far its always worked for me and Im sure has saved a few quid at the vets, having said that i wouldn't go any longer than 48 hours without there being an improvement and if necessary a visit to the vets.
