A litter of black and tan cockers have been stolen from Will Clulee's kennel today at about  3.30pm also a litter of springers, I believe they are 8 weeks old and were due to go to their new homes this weekend.

I have just spoken to Will and as you can imagine he is desperate for the puppies to be returned.

There was a litter of 4 liver & white springers, and 5 cockers, 2 were black & tan dogs, 2 black & tan bitches and one black bitch with white bib.

Can everyone pass this on so hopefully at least some can be found.

I do hope these puppies are found, think this is one more for the 'wonders of facebook' etc., the word can be passed around so quickly. It is so alarming how many dogs are stolen, I now lock my kennels every time I come in the house and I am afraid my dogs don't roam in the garden anymore unless I am out there, a sad sign of the times. Hopefully there will be a happy outcome as there was for Lilah, the missing lab from the CLA who turned up in Wales, due to Facebook so many people knew about her.

I'm afraid to say it symptomatic of the UK these days.

Leave a trailer outside - knicked. Quads - knicked. 4x4's - knicked. Lead from roofs - knicked. Manhole covers - knicked. It seems the country is now full of thieving scum.

With well known people breeding pups, I'm not sure how they can be protected. Security fences, cctv, fierce dogs - almost everything can be overcome by the thieves.

A trifle harsh if I may say.  Whilst we have crime in the UK it is no worse than many other places.  Our neighbour regularly leaves his pushbike on the front door step, it's not been stolen and it's a good bike.

Rural crime does occur, but if it was a bad as you say Svenk we'd never get permission to own shotguns and firearms - our police are tough on that.

I have to agree, nothing is safe.

Were the puppies chipped?  If they were, there may be hope for recovery when they are taken for their jabs (I'm assuming the thieves sell them to reasonably resposible owners here, who probably have no idea they are buying a stolen dog).

The UK has the highest crime rates for the whole of western europe. It's only when you move to somewhere with much less crime, that you realise just how bad things are. It's a huge relief to not have to think did I lock this or that, is the alarm on, who's that coming down the track, etc.

Dog theft is virtually unheard of here. In the last 5 years I've heard of 1 dog being stolen from outside a shop (yes, we can still leave dogs outside shops). But it was found a few days later in a truck being driven by an Irish guy, I kid you not. Absolutely no-one locks kennels, and many of these kennels are in clear view of a main road. All breeders and kennel businesses freely publish their address and directions to their homes/businesses. There are no charities or organisations with whole pages of lost/stolen dogs in the shooting press.

When was the last time you went past some roadworks out of working hours, and saw a digger with no steel panels covering the windows, a spade leant against the bucket, and a whacker plate left nearby? When was the last time you went to a large DIY store, and they let you take home a range of fittings as you weren't sure of the right size, and on your return pay for the one you kept?

I may be misreading this but according to google Sweden has a higher rate of crime per 1,000 head of population than the highest crime rate area in the uk........................ which was London

.

London with 111 cases of reported crime per 1,000 head of population.  In 2009

.

Sweden with 151 cases per 1,000 head of population. In 2009

.

Sorry Svenk, but having spent time in Stockholm and Gothenburg, plus Kvanum, Malmo and Jonkoping (sorry to miss the accents but I don't know how to put them on) in connection with my job; and knowing British people who have lived there, I'm not going to be convinced that the UK is any worse.  I can assure you that we do not all cower in our living rooms behind locked doors wondering who is coming up the drive.  I would concede that with a lower population and hence more space, your rural areas may be less prone to opportunisitc crime simply because they are isolated.

This is totally off thread and is closed as far as my contributions are concerned.
