Hi

We don't go abroad anymore since we had our cocker as we don't want to leave him - we have a motorhome and want to go to france next year if possible.

Does anyone have a doggie passport -  I really don't understand the process.  I think they have blood tests six months apart to see how they react to or create anti bodies to rabies or something. Has anyone had any trouble with this?

I then understand (I think) that you have to have your dog treated in france before you return - has anyone done this and is it a worry?

I've put this off coz I don't get it as I don't want to put our cocker through the mill for the sake of a few weeks a year.

Reassurance please from anyone with experience at this?

Dimmy :/

The rules are changing after next january. All you will need is the passport (which is just a document in which info can be stored), the dog must be chipped, a rabies jab given at least 3 weeks before travel, and this info entered into the passport (dog must be over 12 weeks old before the first jab), and that's it.

No more tests, waiting 6 months before re-entry, and no worming required.

This is to bring the UK and Sweden into line with the rest of the EU, and the various rules regarding free movement of goods and people.

When we were in France this year we met dozens of people who had their uk dogs with them. They all found it pretty straightforward. As has been said, the rules are changing in January so no point in spending anything yet. We wil be having a passport for Logan in January and will post our experience at the time

Hi - thanks to you both for the input -  I will wait til January then and go forward from there.  We were going to ensure we re-tick before we come in so we don't bring anything nasty back with us following many posts on this website.

Thanks again - great help

Dimmy:)

Thanks for the info, Svenk - really pleased things are going to change, we too would like to take dogs to France but I was put off by all the blood tests the dogs had to have months apart.  My father-in-law tried twice to get both his flatcoat dogs innoculated against rabies in order to secure passports for them, had 2 lots of rabies injections and 2 lots of blood tests and the results showed that the dogs jabs had not "taken" - they hadn't produced the correct amount of antibodies or something!  Cost him a small fortune and he still can't take his dogs abroad.  I shall let him know things are changing in January.  Good luck Dimmie - let us know how you get on.

Sorry, spelled your name wrong - of course I mean Dimmy.  Getting late, need a glass of wine or something.
