Hi Everyone. I just thought I would introduce myself to the forum. I am from the East Coast of Yorkshire and have recently entered the manic and exciting world of owning a working cocker! Mine is called Ben and we bought him a few months back just before his first Birthday (will add pictures later). The breeder was looking to rehome him due to an unexpected illness with the original owner. We have another older show cocker who suffers with amogst other things epilepsy but he may as well be a completely different breed when compared to Ben! He lives inside as a pet and I have set the aim of training both me and him up to a point of perhaps enjoying the odd scurry at a game fair but have no plans to shoot or go beating with him (I don't do either myself). I will no doubt be asking plenty of questions on my journey and have already been lapping up the forum from a distance and picking up lots of help and advice and have especially enjoyed reading the Urban Gundog 'blog'. Welcome to the forum, and to the world of working cocker ownership. Good luck with the training, I'd bet within 12 months you hanker after doing a spot of beating - and you are in a good part of the country to give it a go.

Many thanks for the replies. We missed out on the early puppy stage with Ben and he has been in an outside kennel for a couple of months at the breeders before we rehomed him. He has adjusted to living inside very well and was house trained. We use a crate for him in the house on a night and meal times which he doesn't mind. I want to ask Keith51 some questions on his training but will do so under your post of the UGD. Lee
