This forum was set up to work in conjunction with its sister site Working Cocker Pro Health Society. By association, this forum will always be pro health and any issues surrounding health.

Any members that feel this forum is not for them, for whatever reason, are welcome to leave and by sending an email to one of the moderators advising them of such, your membership will be deleted.

Ali,

Please be assured that you will have the continued support of me, and I suspect most of the forum members.

Now that's much more pleasant than your original comment, if only you meant it.

I've obviously missed something over the last few days!

But the header on this site says 'Share your news...air your views'. From the original post I get the impression that the only views that will be tolerated are those that the 'administration' agree with. Is this really the case?

No absolutely not. However, we are having to administer the site closely at the moment.  We have 10 moderators who are pretty level headed.

Er! the little thingy at the top right hand corner which says (or used to say) 'sign in' seems to have disappeared.

On the subject of 'unpleasant' mail - it is such a shame that things like this happen. Somewhere along the line people have a tendency to forget that this is supposed to be about the dogs. I know I am a very new member so perhaps I shouldnt say anything but my only observation really is that rumour mongering always bites back and is usually aimed at those who have no idea that it is going on so cannot defend themsleves.
On a much lighter note Wynnie is a star. She is just 14 weeks old now and coming along really well. She has been out this evening (even though only in the back of the car) while I attended a training evening with my Golden. She was totally unfazed by all the people, noise and general comings and goings of people and dogs. She waited while I opened the cage door; waited while I put on her lead and had a quick sniff around before doing her pee. Then it was back inside for more 'waiting' until the class finished. I am a great fan of getting gundogs used to 'waiting'. Not particularly exciting news but - its the kind of thing which I think is important for any gundog to learn -- and the earlier the better.

HI Mary, thank you for your post.

Nice to see that you are instilling self control in your pup, people seem to think that they naturally gain it as they get older!!  She is gorgeous!

Ali, Hi.
Svenk may be a little blunt, but I can't help feeling he has a point. I was going to ask whether your locked thread was going to be unlocked? From a novices point-of-view I've been trying to follow the 'arguement'  and it's a bit disappointing that I no longer can. The arguement was heated undoubtedly and you and your fellow moderators are very entitled of course, to delete insulting posts or eject the authors of them but this site is all the poorer if only one viewpoint is allowed as it amounts to censorship. Personally, I've no intention whatsoever of breeding a dog, but I may well buy another one at some point. I'd like to think the site could help me in the future, with this decision not hinder me by locking useful information away.
If the thread cannot be unlocked, could not someone summarise the 'arguement' from BOTH sides?
Best intentions

It is a rare occasion that I break cover from my behind the scenes view of WCOL, but a seri es of recent exchanges have prompted me to very publicly support and reinforce the outstanding work Ali and Rachel have promoted via this website.

Disappointingly, some members of the forum have now been deleted, as they overstepped the boundaries of healthy, debate into the domain of narrow- mindedness, self-aggrandisement and plain rudeness. It would be wholly inappropriate to include the exact text here, but I am in no doubt that most members would take offence.

In many ways it would be easy to respond in kind, but then I reflect on the positive aspects of the forum. The insights, challenges and encouragement offered by the vast majority of members quickly outweighs the inappropriate behaviours and disrespect of such people.. So from my perspective, (and here I must admit a bias, as I am Ali's husband) I am very proud of both Ali & Rachel and the work they understake to support the Pro Health Society, WCOL and its members.

Firstly I think Ali and Rachel do a splendid job of moderating this forum.  There is no secret that is is a sister to the WC pro-health and as such will inevitably have a bias in that direction.  I've been posting for just over a year and would not agree that only one viewpoint is tolerated in terms of detailed discussion.  Rudeness has no place in any forum, providing polite reasoned argument is permitted all should be well.

Sorry, all the moderators do a grand job of course, Ali and Rachel have been in the front line recently but it must be hard work.

Thanks to you all.

Well I am sure those who feel this forum is not for them can now go off and set their own forum up for REAL working cockers lol. They would soon realise forums are alot more trouble than they are worth in administrating, How Rachel and Ali have did this for so long without any real reward is beyond me, anyone who administers public forums for NOTHING I might add, deserves a medal.  And its a shame that Ali who was just being honest in her post  was then lambasted simply because her dog is the son of a FTCH and a well known trialer.  I bet if her dog was bred by Joe Bloggs the same people would have critisized  her for not buying a dog from a working or trialing kennel, your damned if you do and damned if you dont.

I've obviously missed what has been going on.  This is our first wcs, having had other gundogs in the past and the amount of help and assistance I have had from the forum members has be oustanding to put it mildly.  I have been a member of other forums - not dogs and have have left because they just ended up as a moaning board, this one is full of helpful advice and knowledge and I would like to thank Ali and Rachel for what must be a thankless task and all the people out there who make it worth while being a member - long may it continue.  Marc

Whilst I applaud the reasoning behind this forum and its plugging away at health testing the Working Cocker I feel that the whole dog has to be taken into account not just health ~ I've seen one or two very odd looking specimens which, whilst they are definitely healthy they aren't true working cockers in looks.  Please please don't loose sight of the breed as a whole including its ability to do the job it was designed for. No good having a really healthy dog if it couldn't run all day, whines, has a hard mouth and couldn't find a phessie in a sack.  The working side has to be kept going and tested for otherwise the breed we all love will change irrevocably. Bring the two sides together don't force them apart.

Fora aren't difficult to moderate, the difficulty lies in accepting others points of view and maybe arguing your case politely. Reminding those that are rude to cool down without actually removing them completely, they too have their place on a public forum and a right to their point of view, just as long as its polite!

Keep up the good work but please remember the Cocker is a working dog, lets keep that at all costs, look at the whole dog not just the health test results and all the extra money you can charge for pups from health tested parents (apparently).

This site is ALL about working cockers, be they used as gundogs, agility, flyball or just energetic country pets.  I've been posting for over a year now, and the events of this week are a first, I'm not even aware of anyone being "expelled" before now.  Health testing has the best interests of the breed at heart so I for one won't knock it.

"Fora aren't difficult to moderate" - can't say I agree with you there!  Perhaps Ali or one of her colleagues would like to comment :)

The thing about WCOL is that it is here for everyone, no one is excluded from passing on there views , however at the same time people must understand other peoples feelings, if you want to post, post nicely, air your views but do it in a good way, don't talk down to people, or slate there hard work on building up a very good website and forum, after all what we all need to remember is you found the forum, the forum did not find you, so if you can't be nice,. Well you get the gist.
