Hi Sharon Yes, i've read this book and have had some training with her (she comes down to Devon reasonably often). I can really see how this method would work - she breaks everything down, so it easy to apply it to particular areas/issues but time has not been my friend the last year so i've not been able to apply as much as i'd like The book is easy to read, has everything broken down into manageable steps, and explains why/how it will work. I just need to work on Dexter's impulse control as the clicker's no good when he's 3 fields away!!

Yes I have bought it when it first came out, didn't rate it much at the time, perhaps I should do a re read. I thought the Gundog Club booklets were better. I don't know if you do Operant stuff in your training but I am going to suggest if you are going down the clicker path to A. Learn and understand the Skinner matrix. It's simple but crutial to Operant Training. B . Find someone, who knows what they are doing to mentor you and show you the techniques. C. Do the background reading on stuff by B.F. Skinner, Behaviour Analysis, and Operant Conditioning, There are some very interesting youtube movies, tap Chicken Camp into the searchbox. Most, I dare say all of the background stuff is free if you know where to look, for instance there is a book by B.F. Skinner downloadable for free off the Skinner Foundation Website it's called "Science and Human Behaviour" and in it's early chapters it gives details of most of the terminology.

Thank you for the replies. I do already use a clicker for general training and agility but am a bit clueless about gundog training. With Rio I went to a gundog trainer who used methods I didn't really want to use myself so thought I might try a bit of DIY clicker gundog stuff. As Poppy will be doing mainly agility the gundog stuff will be just a bit of fun. I'll do a bit of googling and onto Youtube. I always feel like I need refreshing when I have a new pup to train. Clicker training has been useful for me in doing the early retrieves and deliveries, plus it helps with focus. However I don't use a clicker I use the word X instead, you see I may forget a clicker but I always have my mouth ( just ask Mrs. Bramble Monkeys) plus I always have two hands free and it can be modulated to suit circumstances.
