Hi all. My beloved working cocker Bella had to be put down recently just weeks before her 11th birthday. Finding this fantastic site plus the fact I also own 2 year oldTess has helped to console me. I first met a working cocker at a friend's house -- he had been rejected by the Hearing Dogs for being too independent and for eating too many socks but he made the greatest pet ever. I struggled to find Bella as many breeders refused to allow their pedigree pups to go to family homes, but one man called back to say his smallest pup had been rejected by the gamekeeper and she was all mine!

A novice dog owner and a smart dog who ran rings around me made for an interesting few years but I suppose we learnt together and by the time I got Tess I found her far easier to train. Bella used to drag her bed through the house and out onto the back lawn to sunbathe -- is this normal doggie behaviour? I am hoping to get another dog and can't decide whether to trace Bella's ftch lines (Parkbreck Jake, Gypsy Bonnie of Fenlord and Bournepark Bobbin) or should I start afresh. I would welcome any comments.

Hi Sara, wecome to the site, Bella sounds like she was a great girl, our year old Maisie does that dragging her bed thing, she brings it from the kitchen into the lounge and sits on it, even though we have two large floor cushions for the dogs to use on an evening

Just joined and this was first post I checked out. Coincidence?!?

Our 18mth old 'Poppy' has Parkbreck Jake on her 5th Gen of KC reg and other Parkbrecks on both parents sides. I happen to know that Poppys Mum has just had another litter to the same sire and 2 are still available (both all black bitches as per my profile pic) if you are interested.

hiya! I don't think you ever forget your first. But the ones that follow also leave paw prints all over your heart.

Nice to "meet" you

Thanks everyone for your welcome.  I was going to wait a decent interval before getting another dog but spring is in the air and Tess hates being an only dog so watch this space......
