Member Posts: 232 | Hi all, Barclay was in the rabbit pen for the first time yesterday i thought we would fall flat on our faces, but he took it in his stride. First a walk through on the slip blowing the stop whistle on a flush , he didn't pull once !! Then hunted him through turning on the whistle, he did run in on one but that was because i let him pull out. Retrieved a couple of dummies while bunnies hopped about . And then sat steady while rabbits flushed around him , more than i could have hoped for. All that in freezing cold and snow on the ground. I know handlers with experiance have seen it all before but i am one chuffed novice makes all the chewed whistles worth while. Regards Gavin.

Good for you (and Barclay ) I am pleased that he is going well for you. It is so encouraging when things go well. My dogs all seem to have so much drive that the first time in the pen is like going coursing! Keep up the good work.

Thanks Jacquie, It's been a long time coming and i know there will be bad days in the pen but you feel like you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. He is a great little dog and as a novice i have held him back. Now we are with a top trainer it's all coming together , should have done it last year . Regards Gavin.

Sounds like you are doing very well indeed. I've yet to crack pulling where Ollie is concerned and am beginning to think I never will.

We were in a pen this afternoon and made good progress in the end thanks to more than a little help from my friend. A rugby tackle on our fast moving dog helped us to turn the corner. Planning another visit next week.

Good for you, nice to hear it went well. I had weekly lessons in the rabbit pen and found it stressful at first, we got there in the end but it took a lot longer than your experience. The next problem was transferring that steadyness to birds lol.
