Hello, I have a beautiful black wcs called Tilly, she's 7 months old at the moment. I won't work her she is a family pet, company for our four children and old GSD. Her temperament is wonderful, I really can't fault her at all. She is not very well trained which is totally my fault - I have started going to a training club once a week. She used to wee whenever stroked / talked to but that seems to be a lot less often now. I'll try and upload a pic when I get round to it.

Thank you, everyone is very friendly. I've just been to dog training.............even the instructer commented on how energetic Tilly is, and how it will be a long time till I get her into a 'down-stay'. She can sit on command, lie-down with a treat as persuasion, but bounces constantly. I'm worried I may have taken on more than I can handle, I realise that any failings are with me for not putting enough time in or using my time wisely. I think I'm going to try clicker training, she seems quite quick only I don't think I am getting across to her what I want. I think i'll be on this site often!!

If you can find a copy of "The Cocker man" by Hedley Millington, it is worth it for the last chapter alone...

I'm being selective, but:

"Repetition, Repetition, Repetition"

Keep at it, you'll be fine; make it fun and you will enjoy it as well. I am a first time dog owner and I chose a wcs (Doh!) but I got there in the end.

Hi and welcome to WCOL, I am a first time cocker owner aswell, Daisy is eight months old now, blimey time goes fast when you are having fun, she is defo a handful some times, but i wouldnt want it any other way, I was after a dog to put all of my spare time into, and chose a WCS, and i have no regrets, But saying that, I have the perfect life style for a cocker, being a gardener, she is out with me all day, and this gives us plenty of time to practice our training together, she is just perfect... I love her, she is a stonkin cocker, and she never fails to make me smile:D

WCS can be a bit full on, Sue especially had fun and games with Oliie for the first year or so, especially at dog school where he would be good for me and not for her.  You do need to let them know who is boss.  He still gets way with more when alone with Sue than he does with me.  Tilly will calm down a bit I'm sure, she won't lose her energy levels much but will grow up for want of a better term.

You have not made a mistake I'm sure, keep her stimulated mentally and things will be OK.

Its a bit like the foundations of a house, build them poorly & your house will fall down, spend the time doing them correctly & they will last you a life time,

I had forgotton just how lively sweepie was as a puppy till sooty came along. However the training all clicks into place one day. Just dont expect miracles overnight & enjoy that puppy stage :D

Thank you all for your supportive comments - i'll try to get that book over the weekend. I was working on sit-stay today..........she will sit, i tell her to stay, i moved one foot about 3 " and back again. (that was her best!) but I was happy with that, normally bottom down and bounces straight back up!

Hi and welcome. I've used the clicker to teach Tank his sit stay and his stop whislte and it seems to be coming together nicely. We have a reasonablish stay, I just now need to increase the distance (and he doesn't creep or fidget so far). I've been a bit lapse with his training recently (too busy doing other stuff) sothanks for the timely reminder to get soem work done :)
