For the last few days we have had a blue tit landing on the outside window ledge and going up and down the window. He/she does this on different windows, in fact this morning I think there were two blue tits doing this. I do not want them to hurt themselves. I used to feed the birds outside my kitchen window but my neighbour complained, said they were ruining his hedge by landing on it and making a mess, so I relocated the feeding station further down the garden. The window the blue tits do this strange behaviour is mostly the kitchen window but do use other windows. Even the cat sitting inside the window is not deterring them. Has any one any ideas as to why they are doing this? Carol

Is the blue tit seeing his own reflection? It is the breeding season and he may think it is a rival male and he is warning him off.

As long as the blue tit isn't banging into your window and actually hurting himself he should be alright. Just a bit frustrated that he isn't making his 'rival' go away People do put stickers of larger birds on their windows to prevent birds flying into them but I don't know if they work. I used to feed my birds and got great pleasure from it but it also attracted the attention of a sparrowhawk! I know it is nature but it really upset me when I saw birds that I was feeding and had got to know being eaten by the sparrowhawk. Yes, hawks are magnificent creatures but I don't want them eating my birds and chicks!
