We are looking for a good home for Charlie our black working cocker. He is 5 and we have had him from a pup.  He’s in good health and very handsome.  He has not been worked but he is quite well trained and obedient. He lives in the house.  He has been a great family pet but since we lost our old welsh springer in the summer he has been quite nervous especially when our young children have been noisy around him.  He has always been great with the children and I would not be worried about him biting them, it is just that they make him a nervous.   The reason we have to let him go is that he has started attacking Finley.  They are good friends most of the time but occasionally and unpredictably he bites him quite ferociously which has led to Finley being injured a couple of times.  We don’t think it is fair to Finley to let this happen again and we are now keeping them apart as a short term solution.     We think that Charlie would benefit from a new home: without children – or with older children with someone experienced with dogs who can give him the mental stimulation and exercise he needs either without other dogs or with a strong bitch who can put him in his place – he does not seem comfortable with being a pack leader. Please get in touch for more information. Cathy 0777 5585566 Cheshire

Just a suggestion, but you might find it easier to find a home for the puppy?

Good luck,

Nick

Thanks. We have considered rehousing the puppy instead but as he is very content with the chaos of family life having grown up with it and Charlie is less keen on it (he was around before the children) we think it would be better for Charlie to find a new home.  It will of course have to be our last resort!

Hi Cathy

Dickie and Kate Williams mentioned Charlie to us last week and I have got him in mind to find a good home for him and the two I posted about earlier are also rehoming candidates.  I am sure with the fact that he is used to being in a house is a big plus.   I am sure that someone will suddenly appear out of the woodwork.

With best wishes

Are you wanting to sell your dog or rehome him?

Have you contacted a spaniel rehoming organisation?

Sorry it didn't work out.

Thank you all for your thoughts and help with rehousing Charlie.

I am pleased to say that we have found him a lovely home via Cocker rescue just 200 miles away in Somerset!  A retired couple who lost their working cocker last summer aged 15.  They had him since he was 4 so are very happy about doing the same again and taking on a 5 year old.  They are right next to exmoor and 1 mile from the sea - I could quite fancy it myself!  He is going next wednesday so fingers crossed it all goes ahead.

That sounds absolutely perfect for all concerned!   Really glad to hear this and hope that all goes well - it will be difficult for you when he goes but it sounds like the best thing all round.
